    The 2nd National Conference on the Development of Ecological Fishery in Open Water was Held in Chagan Lake

    From January 3 to 5, under the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and Jilin Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the 2nd National Conference on the Development of Ecological Fishery in Open Water was held in Qianguo County, Songyuan City, on the shore of Chagan Lake, Jilin Province. With the theme of “Science and Technology Empowering, Leading the Transformation and Upgrading of Ecological Fishery in Open Water”, the conference was co-sponsored by the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and Jilin Academy of Fishery Sciences, and co-organized by the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Director Xu Pao of FFRC.

    On behalf of Songyuan Municipal Government, Li Pengfei, Vice Mayor of Songyuan City, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the guests, and said that he would take this meeting as an opportunity to continuously explore, innovate and promote the sustainable and healthy development of ecological fisheries. Liu Wenguo, deputy director of Jilin Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, introduced the development of ecological fishery in open water represented by Chagan Lake in Jilin Province, and expressed his hope to deepen scientific and technological cooperation with the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System and relevant scientific research institutes to promote the green and high-quality development of fishery in Jilin Province.

    Researcher Ge Xianping, Chief Scientist of the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, said that the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System will focus on key tasks such as “research on the ecological enhancement in open water and model demonstration”, strengthen the research, development and demonstration of key core technologies, help the development of open water ecological fishery in the new era, and shape new momentum and new advantages for the high-quality development of the industry with ecological civilization, industrial integration, and income increase for fisherman.

    Han Gang, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, introduced the effectiveness of the open water ecological fishery science and technology innovation alliance, and said that Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences will, as always, do a good job in the organization, management and support services of the system, and strive to achieve the organic connection between the system work and government decision-making, industrial application and social needs.

    Zhang Wen, Level 1 Counsel of the Department of Science, Technology and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that it is necessary to further strengthen the support of science and technology for the development of open water ecological fishery, continue to promote the technical problems of industrial upgrading and transformation as a key task, focus on advantageous forces, carry out joint research, made scientific and technological achievements, and strengthen the demonstration of achievement transformation, and better promote the development of scientific and technological achievements to serve the development of fisheries.

    At the meeting, Gui Jianfang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to give a keynote report entitled “Transformation and upgrading of China’s freshwater fishery and high-quality development”, he pointed out that the new paradigm of open water ecological fishery with “culturing water with fishery” will create a new measure of lake open water fishery and ecological governance of water environment.     The conference also held the unveiling ceremony of the core demonstration site of Chagan Lake of the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, and organized the participants to visit the winter fishing at Chagan Lake and the fishing and hunting culture in the north.

    The conference attracted nearly 500 people from relevant universities and research institutes across the country, as well as entrepreneurs and technical backbones engaged in open water ecological fishery, and made positive contributions to promoting the green and high-quality development of China’s open water ecological fishery.
