On June 30, Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences organized a special meeting to convey and study the spirit of the video-telephone conference of the ban on fishing and resettlement of fishermen in key waters of the Yangtze River Basin. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Xu Pao, Director of FFRC, Prof. Wan Yibing, Deputy Director of FFRC and Director of the Huai River Basin Fishery Ecological Protection Research Center, and chiefs of relevant departments attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Director Xu Pao conveyed the spirit of the speech made by Han Zheng, Vice Premier of the State Council, at the "Video and Telephone Conference on Promoting the Prohibition of Fishing and Resettlement of Fishermen in Key Waters of the Yangtze River Basin" on June 28. Director Xu Pao emphasized that the implementation of the "10-year ban on fishing" in the Yangtze River is an important decision of the central government for the overall plan and for future generations. It is a major deployment of the central government to strengthen the construction of ecological civilization and promote the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The party members, cadres and the vast number of scientific and technological personnel of FFRC need to earnestly strengthen their awareness and responsibilities, adhere to problem-oriented, goal-oriented, and result-oriented, and do a solid job in the scientific and technological support work of "jointly grasping the great protection of the Yangtze River" and the "ten-year fishing ban" of the Yangtze River.
Deputy Director Wan Yibing emphasized that since the end of the 1980s, FFRC has been engaged in the investigation and evaluation, as well as research on proliferation and protection of fishery resources in the lower Yangtze River and the Huai River Basin,and has successively provided the superior authorities with several special achievements, such as "Research on the effect of the spring fishing ban in the Yangtze River and the management countermeasures for special fishing", which strongly supports the relevant management decisions of the competent departments. In recent years, under the unified leadership of the Yangtze River Basin Fishery Administration Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (hereinafter referred to as "Yangtze River Office"), the Huai River Basin Fishery Ecological Protection Research Center has carried out fishing ban cruise inspection and scientific research missions by using the China fishery administration 030 platform, the voyage has reached hundreds of thousands of kilometers, providing positive support for the fishing ban work to achieve solid results.
Director Xu Pao requested that FFRC, as a fishery scientific research institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, must closely strengthen exchanges and cooperation with management departments, systematically conceive targeted scientific research tasks, and give full play to the accumulation and advantages of FFRC in the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River resources, protection of rare and endangered species, education and training of fishery technology, etc., and further play the role of scientific and technological support. Next, the Huai River Basin Fishery Ecological Protection Research Center should coordinate relevant departments, perform their duties, take the initiative in the Yangtze River protection strategy, and strive to build the Yangtze River resources ecologicalconservation research platform, optimize the layout of the Yangtze River fishery resources ecological monitoring network during the fishing ban period, steadily promote the Yangtze River finless porpoise protection research, systematically improve the comprehensive research strength of resource conservation, species protection and ecological restoration, and assist the Yangtze River Office in the maintenance of resources,species protection, cruise inspection, review of fishery projects, etc. in the lower Yangtze River and the Huai River Basin.
