From December 8 to 9, hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and co-organized by FFRC, CAFS, the “Training Course on Carp Culture Technology for Central Asian Countries” was successfully held by video conferences. Researcher Zhu Jian, Researcher Dong Zaijie, Researcher Xi Bingwen, and Researcher Ren Mingchun from FFRC participated in the teaching tasks of the training course, and had extensive exchanges with nearly 100 senior fishery officials and technicians from FAO, Central Asian countries, Hungarian Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Institute, Central and Eastern European Aquaculture Center Cooperation Network, and Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. All members of the Dept. of International Cooperation and Education, FFRC participated in the training and exchange.

This training is an important part of the FAO-Turkey partnership project, which aims to promote the rapid improvement of carp culture level and production in Central Asia by sharing innovative carp culture technologies and models. China is a major carp culture country with a long history; FFRC, as a national research institution in the field of freshwater aquaculture research, was invited to share advanced and practical technologies and latest research progress in the field of  carp selective breeding, feed development, disease prevention and control and culture models.

For many years, FFRC, as FAO Reference Centre for aquaculture and inland fishery research and training, has played an important role in the development of FAO's global fishery projects. At present, the COVID-19 is still spreading globally, and the epidemic has brought severe challenges to global food production and animal protein supply. FFRC is willing to work hand in hand with FAO and relevant international institutions to actively disseminate China’s practical aquaculture technology in order to help relevant countries to expand and increase freshwater fishery production as soon as possible, and alleviate food supply crisis caused by the epidemic.
